TUPELO SHOW CHOIR AT A GLANCE
The Tupelo Show Choir Department is comprised of students who love singing and dancing, playing instruments, and helping behind the scenes. Each entity works together to provide students in our district with a unique and superior education in music and performance.
WHAT WE DO
Show choir is is a competitive art form where students sing and dance. They are traditionally accompanied by a band made up of students or professionals. There are elaborate costumes, lights, and sets that enhance the visual aspect of each show which is all handled by a crew backstage.
TUPELO MIDDLE SCHOOL
WHERE IT ALL BEGINS
Tupelo Middle School's Splash is ann auditioned show choir comprised of fifty-seven 7th and 8th grade students at TMS. The groups meet every day during school. Splash is a competitive choir, which allows the students to travel and represent TMS on the competition stage. These students get to work with renowned choreographers, study popular and traditional vocal styles, and collaborate with some of the area's most respected musicians. Love singing, dancing, and performing overall? Splash is a great stepping stone to build the foundation for show choir at the high school level. They are both under the direction of Reagan Ray.
TUPELO HIGH SCHOOL
CONTINUING THE TRADITION
Tupelo High School offers two showchoirs, Soundwave and Synergy. Both are comprised of 9th-12th grade singer dancers. Synergy competes statewide, regionally, and nationally along with our show band, Structure. 2021-2022 was the first undefeated season of show choir in Tupelo's history, with this group consistently placing top 3 in overall scores outside of their division. Synergy is under the direction of Danielle Frerer Ratliff and Sound Wave under Reagan Ray.
These choirs are accompanied by the best student band in the area, Structure. These auditioned students play multiple instruments each and help collaborate to make some pretty rockin' music for both show choirs and even themselves. They consistently score very high at competitions, even amongst professionals. They are under the direction of Tracy Smithey.
Last, but not least, our backstage group, Crew, takes care of all costumes, set, and lighting. They are our fearless unsung heroes that make sure each rehearsal and performance go as smoothly as possible.
